From timeless old Tahoe style cabins, to jaw dropping lakefront estates, North Lake Tahoe real estate has something for everyone.  Several subdivisions like Dollar Point and Agate Bay have lake access, and pools and tennis courts as part of their home owner amenities.  North Lake Blvd. is lined with lakefront homes, many of which have private piers.  Lakefront pricing generally starts in the $1,500,000 range, and can exceed $12,000,000.  Most pricing for North Lake Tahoe homes begins in the $400,000 range.  A view of the lake always comes at a premium.

There are a wide range of condo opportunities as well, mostly concentrated near Tahoe City and King’s Beach.  Many of the condos were built in the 1970′s, and most also feature some pool and or tennis amenity.  Condos run the full gamut of pricing, from under $100,000 for a converted motel unit, to well over $1,000,000.

For all of the skiing and winter sports that make Truckee and North Lake Tahoe so famous, summer at the Lake is truly a World class experience.  I’ve lived in this area for nearly all of my life, and I never tire of seeing and partaking in the true gem of the Sierra’s.

Closest to central Truckee is Juniper Hills.  A gated community of mostly 20 acre forested estate parcels.  Some of these private mountain retreats have tremendous panoramic views to the north and west.  Prices here generally range from around $1,000,000 to upwards of $7,000,000, with homes ranging to 15,500 square feet.  (Really)

Juniper Creek Ranches is also a gated community of acreage estates.  The entrance is just a few miles farther from Town (actually closer by freeway), and has a meandering three mile drive through a gorgeous forest to the beginning of the parcels.  Properties here can range to more than 80 acres, but are mostly 20′s with a few 10 acre pieces intermixed.  This subdivision meanders through the mountainous terrain, and ends in some cases near the Nevada State line.  Like Juniper Hills, there are some massive custom estates here, but Juniper Creek is more typified by modest homes near 2500 square feet on 20 secluded acres.

The homes and condo opportunities in Squaw Valley are numerous, and widely varying.  There are several subdivisions in Squaw Valley like Painted Rock and Hidden Lake that offer exquisite views, and many high-end luxury homes.

The homes in Alpine Meadows are built primarily along the canyon walls that lead out of Bear Creek down to the Truckee River.  The slopes lend to some unique architecture, and some truly magnificent homes along with plenty of classic vintage ski cabins.

Abundant hiking, horseback riding, and epic mountain biking can be yours in the summer here.  Cabins in Alpine Meadows can begin in the $400,000′s and luxury homes can go for well over $1,000,000.  Alpine Meadows condos start in the low $200,000′s and in some cases can be ski-in and out.  There are also a fair number of units around the entrance of Alpine near the Truckee River.  They often rent well, and many have a solid rental history.

Alpine Meadows real estate is unique, and worth exploring if you desire close proximity to the slopes, and lush forested settings in the summer, without the crowds that are sometimes found elsewhere.

Those familiar with this little slice of paradise, will be quick to tell you that, “the West is the best” shore, as it offers a more relaxed and forested feel than the sunny North shore.  The West shore communities from north to south are Tahoe City, Sunnyside, Homewood, Tahoma, and Rubicon.  There are a whole host of subdivisions in between.

There are very few condominium opportunities on the West shore with the exception of near Tahoe City, and in Tahoma.  There are also some very high end luxury units available in Fleur de Lac and Chamber’s Landing. 

The homes that make up West shore Lake Tahoe real estate run the full gamut of pricing, style, and setting.  Lakefront estates are often on multiple acres, with deep water piers and hundreds of feet of shoreline.  Cabins can back to the forest, and be in deeply wooded and secluded settings, for that true Tahoe getaway.

The West shore of Lake Tahoe gets more snow than most other spots around the lake, but the proximity to Homewood Ski Resort and Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows makes for relatively easy winter sports access.  If you’ve never explored the West shore of Lake Tahoe, it’s worth a closer look.

Historic Truckee is the area of Town that is primarily above old Downtown Truckee and along the Truckee River, and heading west toward Donner Lake.  There are homes here that have been standing and loved since the mid to late 1800′s and there are wonderful new mountain retreats along the Truckee River.

The railroad, the river and the freeway are three omnipresent facts of life for living in Historic downtown Truckee.  Depending on the time of day and where you’re at, you may be able to hear all three.  If walking distance to shopping, culture, and the river are intriguing to you, then a home in Historic downtown Truckee is worth exploring.

The first town on our northward journey takes us to Sierraville.  Small and rural, with a rich ranching history set at the southern end of the peaceful Sierra Valley.  Many locals from Truckee have moved here in the last 10 years for a slower pace, and a little less snow.  Take a right in Sierraville, and the next stop is Loyalton.

Loyalton once centered around logging and the Sierra Pacific Mill that is now closed.  There is still a thriving community here, with a high school, and a big commuter population to Reno and Truckee.  Continuing on from here will take us to Hwy. 70 and the small map stops of Vinton and Chilcoot.

Had we taken a left in Sierraville, we would have come to the towns of Sattley, and then on to Graeagle and eventually Portola and Quincy in Plumas County.  Golf is a big draw in Graeagle, and several top quality courses are open for play starting in the spring.  There is also the scenic Gold Lakes area, Plumas-Eureka State Park, and World class mountain biking in Downieville.

There are plenty of real estate options in Sierra and Plumas Counties, ranging from entry level homes in Loyalton under $100,000 to huge ranch estates on hundreds of acres for several million dollars.

If you’re willing to drive an extra hour or so, but looking to get away from it all, Sierra and Plumas County Real Estate is worth exploring.
